BlueJ Support request form

Use this form to request technical support when you are having a problem with BlueJ.

STOP!! Before using this form, it's recommended that you:

  • Read the FAQ to make sure the problem's not covered there
  • Check the Bug Database to make sure the problem has not already been reported and

You can use the search box (above right) to search the FAQ and the rest of the BlueJ web site.

Fill in as many of the following details as you can, then click the "submit" button.

1. Basic information

(eg. C:\Program Files\BlueJ, or /home/myname/bluej)

Note: BlueJ 2.0.0 and higher requires java 1.4.2 (or higher). BlueJ 1.3.5 requires java 1.3.0 or higher; 1.4.2 or higher is recommended.

(Example: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0)

2. Description of the problem

Please include:

  • An actual description of the problem
  • The exact text of any error message(s)
  • Information about how you've tried to fix the problem so far

Provide as much detail as possible.

3. Diagnostic information - Important!!

Please attach the bluej debug log using the box below. The location of the debug log can be found in the "Help -> about" dialog.

Be aware that the file is overwrittten each time you start BlueJ! So, you should reproduce the problem, close BlueJ, and then immediately fill out this form and attach the debug log.

If you can't see the About BlueJ dialog for some reason (for instance if BlueJ won't start at all), look for the debug log in the following locations:

  • On Windows, in "C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\bluej\bluej-debuglog.txt";
  • On Mac OS/X, in "/User/your-user-name/Library/Preferences/org.bluej/bluej-debuglog.txt";
  • On Linux, Solaris, and other unix-like systems, in "your-home-directory/.bluej/bluej-debuglog.txt" (note that ".bluej" is normally an invisible directory).

4. Submission

Before you go any further - did you attach the debug log?!! (See above).

If you didn't attach the debug log, it will likely be the very first thing that we ask for. This means it will take longer for you to get a solution to your problem.
